Disney’s Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Display 2013 Opens With Mary Blair Inspired Treats & Hidden Mickey Cupcake
Hi everyone!
Disney’s Contemporary Resort now has it’s Mary Blair influenced gingerbread display open, based on the attraction “it’s a small world”. Following in the theme, there are more Mary Blair inspired treats then ever before, and even a unique Hidden Mickey cupcake!
I’ve been photographing the various gingerbread displays around Walt Disney World over the last 7 years. This is the 4th year for this display, which changes a bit each year. Prior to that, there was a Pinocchio gingerbread arrangement.
The display at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is open from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and we were told that they extended the closing date this year until January 5th.
There are so many wonderfully themed treats this year! Check out this Five-Legged Goat Rice Krispie Treat, which is a familiar icon in the Mary Blair mural that stands tall in the Grand Canyon Concourse.
The Five Legged Goat is also on the pin this year! Talented pastry chef Jeff Barnes was there and we were able to get it signed.
Some of the children from “it’s a small world” take a ride on the monorail in this cookie!
This was the most popular photo on our Instagram today, of this hidden Mickey cupcake. We didn’t buy one yet, but we were told that anywhere you slice, you get a Mickey! You can follow Mousesteps on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter to keep up with the latest!
There are Mickey gingerbread shingles:
And gingerbread men! There is also a gingerbread house kit that costs just $25.00, but there wasn’t one yet for display purposes. I was told it includes the monorail like last year’s gingerbread house.
Chocolate popcorn is also new this year.
Mickey sugar cookies come in two colors (at least today!)
I asked what Holiday Citrus Bread was, and was told it was like a fruitcake.
The children from “it’s a small world” are white chocolate this year, instead of being part of a sugar cookie.
“it’s a small world” lollipops:
There are gluten free offerings as well.
There is just one moon (not shown), and one golden sun (at the top of the gingerbread tree!)
Here is our video of the Gingerbread tree display at Disney’s Contemporary Resort!
Hidden Mickeys can be found around the display. We were told that this year, there is more Mary Blair inspiration than ever before.
This door opens and closes, revealing a gingerbread man!
The “it’s a small world” clock rocks back and forth.
Two soldiers stand guard, and a sign lists the ingredients that include:
15 hidden Mickeys
136 pounds of honey
211 pounds of flour
101 eggs
27 pounds of spice
15 pounds of sugar syrup
98 pounds of icing
151 pounds of chocolate
And…over 2000 gingerbread shingles!
The sign says:
“This Holiday Display is inspired by the heritage of the Mary Blair mural inside the Grand Canyon Concourse of Disney’s Contemporary Resort.”
Jeff tries his best to be a soldier.
We picked up a delicious chocolate cookie with candy cane pieces at Disney’s Contemporary Resort today, and a gingerbread Mickey at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort (we will be posting about the Grand Opening of the Gingerbread House tomorrow!) The gingerbread at the resorts are different – with the recipe at Disney’s Grand Floridian being from Europe.
Jeff holds up our treats for today.
Have you seen the Five Legged Goat in the mural? It is easily seen from the monorail platform.
Tomorrow we will be posting about the Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Gingerbread House Grand Opening, and we’ll continue reporting on the resorts and parks all season long!
