Walt Disney World Resorts Will Not Offer Gingerbread Displays in 2020

Hi everyone!

We posted a few days ago a press release that includes what is and what isn’t available this year at Walt Disney World for the holidays. A lot will be different this year due to physical distancing guidelines. One aspect of the holidays I’ve been asked about is the resort gingerbread displays. We post about them each year, attending opening ceremonies when available and occasionally catching the final dusting of Disney’s Grand Floridian Gingerbread House. Unfortunately, these popular displays will not be offered in 2020, although there will be decorations at the resorts that are open to guests.

Here is our video of the 2018 grand opening of Disney’s Grand Floridian Gingerbread House.

I will in particular miss the displays at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort and the Gingerbread Carousel at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. I spend as much time or more at the resorts during the holiday season to enjoy the decorations.

I wasn’t expecting the resorts to have gingerbread in part also because – for example, the Grand Floridian pastry team starts baking in July, putting over 400 hours of time in. It’s a big project that just would be impossible right now. Hopefully there will be some gingerbread items through the resorts and parks as part of the holiday offerings.

Disney’s Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel celebrated 20 years in 2019.

Last year there was also a new gingerbread cabin at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. I will miss seeing that return, it was a very nice addition to the resort for the holidays. We will see the beautiful tree and hopefully some of the other familiar decorations like the garland and lit deer. The resort was made for holiday decorations.

I expect to pull together a resort gingerbread display article in November, right now I’m still focused on Halloween both current and from previous years. I am looking forward to celebrating the holidays at the parks and resorts this year but I really look forward to when our normal traditions return in the future.
