New Solar Powered McDonald’s Opens at Walt Disney World (Photos, Video)

Hi everyone –

The new solar-powered McDonald’s opened a few days back on Walt Disney World property near Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This is in place of the former McDonald’s, and includes a lot of ecological features that range from the windows to solar panels.

Here is our video and then photos.

This side of the McDonald’s has a mid-century modern look to it.

There is a solar canopy overhead, and it seems to be a very new initiative over just the last couple of years to start focusing on solar power.

Operable Louver windows open and close to allow natural ventilation automatically, based on the temperature and humidity outside – bringing cold air in and sending warm air out. There is over 600 feet of windows that open and close.

There is also 1700 square feet of green, plant-covered walls. They have several functions, including absorbing rain water to help reduce the peak load on sewage systems, reducing the risk of flooding. The videos on a screen in the McDonald’s give a lot of information.

There is a ton of outdoor seating, which is really important now.

There was a notice on the table that someone would be back to clean and sanitize the table. I saw a lot of cleaning during our visits.

There are two stationary bikes that help power the McDonald’s arch.

It was like 90 degrees out so not conducive to any biking, even hand biking.

There are tables not only under the canopy, but also fully outside.

Enhanced safety measures include much of what you’d expect during a pandemic, including gloves and face coverings. Also, a mask or cloth face covering is required as per Osceola County to go inside.

The canopy is huge, and inside the McDonald’s is as well. It is very easy to distance right now, and some tables are not in use to help that.

Solar panels overhead.

Instead of pulling with your hand, you can use the StepNPull to not touch the doors. I found the pulling with the foot a little heavy here, but easier in the restroom.

This is the restroom version.

This door feels a lot lighter.

Here is a look at the inside of the McDonald’s. While I don’t dine inside right now, there is a lot of room between many tables.

The lighting is really unique as well.

These tables are closer together and probably half have signs on them to not use.

Please leave this seat or table empty.

Guests can order in a number of ways – mobile order, with a cashier or here at a display.

The display says Welcome back and to be safe and social distance.

There is fun artwork on the walls.

The recycle bins have displays.

And there is a double drive-through as well.

The McDonald’s is currently open from 11:00am – 8:00pm (check the hours before visiting) and is located at 1596 W Buena Vista Dr, Kissimmee, FL 34747. It is a beautiful building with a lot of eco-friendly features. The food items are more expensive than you will find off-property, as was the case before. McDonald’s is also very close to Disney’s All-Star Resorts, which are currently closed due to the pandemic.
