Raglan Road Fiddler Cameron Ross is Finalist in BBC Radio Scotland Competition

Raglan Road at Disney Springs has so many talented performers, and one of those performers – fiddler Cameron Ross – has been moving forward in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician competition in Coulter, South Lanarkshire. He competed with 11 other semifinalists a few days ago and is moving on as one of six finalists in the competition.

Cameron, 25, has been performing at Raglan Road with TradGad or the Raglan Roots Coalition. Raglan Road says of him, Cameron is excited about competing in the Radio Scotland competition, which will include playing in a Coulter Hall concert. The BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award is managed for BBC Radio Scotland by Hands Up for Trad.

Ross was born in Glasgow and grew up in Stonehaven, Scotland. He plays fiddle, guitar, mandolin and percussion, and he began music classes at 3 years old – including the violin at age 7! He studied at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and East Tennessee State University. He has toured with The Paul McKenna Band among others and has performed for Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Anne.

Ross usually wears a kilt in his performances because of the importance to his heritage and because it is “very suited” to Orlando’s climate as Raglan Road conveys in their latest newsletter.
