Book Review: “From All of Us to All of You, The Disney Christmas Card” by Jeff Kurtti is a Love Letter to the Season

We received From All of Us to All of You The Disney Christmas Card to review. This is the second of three books authored by Jeff Kurtti this year, the first being Travels with Walt Disney: A Photographic Voyage Around the World, which I reviewed here. He also has Practically Poppins in Every Way: A Magical Carpetbag of Countless Wonders coming out this year of his 20+ books that he’s written over the last 20 or so years. The book did release this month and can be ordered for delivery now.

From All of Us to All of You The Disney Christmas Card folds out from the front. There is no dust cover. This isn’t my favorite way to read a book, although there is also something about it that reminds one of opening a gift. And for anyone who loves Disney and Christmas, this book will make a treasured gift and a lovely addition to a coffee table.

From All of Us to All of You The Disney Christmas Card is really a love letter to the season with a colorful array of artwork as part of Disney company Christmas cards – some of those cards are in envelopes to discover throughout the book, though they aren’t cards to be used (but they are removable). Wouldn’t it be wonderful if some of these cards could be reproduced and sold by the Disney company? The artwork isn’t just of Mickey and Minnie but utlizes a wide variety of Disney characters, including The Three Little Pigs, Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar, Snow White and so many more. There are Disney artist spotlights including Mary Blair, John Hench and Hank Porter, and a surprising card shared that features Santa wrapping a bomber (due to the war and Victory in Power). Many cards were sent out to coincide with Disney productions. Toys for Tots is on one card, and a page discussing the charity and how Walt Disney was involved is mentioned – the company still supports Toys for Tots to this day.
 
The book is chronological, and more than halfway through addresses Walt’s passing. There is a decidedly different feel to the artwork once 1970 begins – the classic Disney look was evolving and the designs by Bob Moore bring more the Disney of my childhood (1970s) into view as Walt Disney World opens.  One of my favorite cards shown in the book is Mickey and a Bill Justice reindeer, which is a lot different than the current reindeer you will find at the parks. And not only does the look of many of the cards change, but as Disney adds different business divisions, there are cards from those divisions and not just one Disney card each year. There are even a couple of pages of Prep & Landing near the end of the book, including a card in an envelope with them.
 
From All of Us to All of You The Disney Christmas Card could also be considered a history book – not an exhaustive or ultra wordy one, but it is enough to keep the book moving along, with a wonderful year by year look at many Disney company Christmas cards, which often have a paragraph discussing them. Each decade also has a page or two introduction.
 
I am reviewing From All of Us to All of You The Disney Christmas Card as Halloween is nearing an end and the Disney Christmas season is just weeks away. This is a book I will personally cherish for years to come, one that I will pull off the shelf each year at the beginning of the Christmas season – which of course, in Orlando, means at the end of October. 🙂
