Salt & Straw Opens at Disney Springs with Creative and Delicious Flavors (Photos, Video)

Hi everyone!

Salt & Straw opened at Disney Springs yesterday! This is the 27th location for the unique small-batch ice cream shop, which also has been scooping ice cream at the Disneyland Resort since 2018 in Downtown Disney. The newest Salt & Straw is located on the West Side next to the AMC Theaters. Here are photos and video from yesterday!

The ribbon cutting included founders Kim and Tyler Malek, cousins from Portland who started the business in 2011. So while the Disney Springs shop is new, the brand is over 10 years old. You can read their story online.

Here is our video of the grand opening, interview with Tyler Malek and a look inside the shop.

The ribbon was cut by Tyler Malek with Kim by his side.

They high fived.

In our interview with Tyler, he talks about the shop and flavors. The ice cream flavors are “slightly tweaked” based on the city that the shop is in. For example, there is a Pear and Blue Cheese at Downtown Disney in California and the The Salty Donut Guava + Cheese here.  He also called the monthly menu “my heart and soul” that he spends much of his time developing.

Kim posed in front of the shop.

Guests lined up yesterday to be among the first 100 to receive a free opening day scoop of ice cream.

The Student Inventors Series includes flavors like Rosie the Pink Flamingo. The Salt & Straw website says about this series, “Last summer, we partnered with Scholastic for our Rad Readers series and invited kids to submit their wildest stories. We’ve chosen the most epic stories submitted by some of the most imaginative children and turned their whimsical plots into one-of-a-kind ice creams.”

Prices start at $6.95 for a single scoop.

Guests are encouraged to try samples.

We tried a number of creative and delicious flavors on spoons, although I stuck with my favorite afterwards – Chocolate Gooey Brownie. It was nice to try flavors I may order in the future.

The employees were so helpful and posed for photos with the ice cream. We were in the first 100 guests to receive a free scoop of ice cream. The large waffle cone was (and is) $2.00 more than the ice cream and was a nice addition yesterday.

There are Classic Flavors, which include Double Fold Vanilla, Chocolate Gooey Brownie, Panther Coffee Chocolate Tres Leches and The Salty Donut Guava + Cheese. Panther Coffee  and The Salty Donut are from Miami.

There is a new menu on the first Friday of every month, so some flavors will change at that time.

Guests can purchase pints.

From Salt & Straw about the Chocolate Gooey Brownie flavor: “We’ve teamed up with Valrhona to make a base that is rich, dark, fudgy, and chocolatey. Our in-house baked, gooey Brownies have Marshmallows baked into them to create a Brownie that treads awfully close to the point of being Fudge.”

Other items are also for sale, including travel tumblers and candles. There is an online shop where pints of ice cream and other items can be ordered for delivery nationwide.

There was a sign for quick pickup when ordering online.

Salt & Straw is currently open from 10:00 a.m. through midnight each day.
