Book Review: The Sprinkles Baking Book by Candace Nelson Offers 100 Unique Recipes (and Not Just Cupcakes)
Hi everyone!
I received The Sprinkles Baking Book by Sprinkles founder Candance Nelson, with no obligation at all to write up a review. I actually didn’t expect to write one, I like to bake but generally use online websites for all of my recipes. However, I enjoyed looking through this book so much that I wanted to say something about it.
What I expected from The Sprinkles Baking Book is a cupcake recipe book. It is, but there is a lot more here than just cupcake recipes. There are recipes for cookies, brownies, pies, cakes, breads, candies and other items. Some recipes might be labor intensive, but some are quite simple and I look forward to trying them for the holidays. I have a few recipes I use every Christmas, but it will be nice to try something new as well. There are recipes from celebrities including Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba and Julia Roberts.
For those who do want to make cupcakes that can be found at Sprinkles, some of those recipes are here too – those include The Sprinkles Red Velvet Cupcake, Dark Chocolate Cupcake (my favorite) and Coconut Cupcake. For the most part, I will be sticking with picking up a cupcake occasionally at the Disney Springs store since I rarely need to make batches of cupcakes – but for those who do, there are some terrific recipes here. I’m looking forward to trying my hand at the Chocolate Chai Quick Bread with Cardamom Cinnamon Frosting and the Black & Tan Guinness Cake.
Not only are recipes here, but information on how to frost; different pieces of equipment needed for the recipes (one thing I don’t have is a food processor, which is needed for some); and what kind of ingredients Candace Nelson uses.
The Sprinkles Baking Book offers “100 secret recipes from Candace’s Kitchen” in over 300 pages. This would make a great holiday gift or for yourself if you enjoy baking.
