Book Review: “Art of Coloring: Walt Disney World” 50th Anniversary Adult Coloring Book

I received the book “Art of Coloring: Walt Disney World: 100 Images to Inspire Creativity from The Most Magical Place on Earth” to review. This is a companion book to “A Portrait of Walt Disney World: 50 Years of the Most Magical Place on Earth” that I reviewed yesterday. Disney calls it an adult coloring book, although it is good for kids too. There are 100 images including theme park poster art, maps and vintage coloring pages “to inspire creativity from The Most Magical Place on Earth”. This is a great souvenir book even if you don’t want to color. Here is my review!
The cover of Art of Coloring: Walt Disney World has the same artwork as the coffee table book “A Portrait of Walt Disney World” with one of the same authors (Kevin M. Kern) and illustrator (Fabiola Garza). The chapter titles are the same as in the larger book. Kern says in the preface, “The coloring pages we’ve pulled together in this book come from a variety of historical sources that dot the resort’s now half-century legacy, including a few vintage publications that I collected as a child”.
The first chapter of coloring pages offers vintage coloring book pages and poster art, including The Country Bear Jamboree (several images), Haunted Mansion and the Main Street Train Station entrance. Quite a few images seem to come from a coloring book from 1983 called “A Big Coloring Book: Walt Disney World”, and that also includes a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction coloring page. The book is higher quality than a standard coloring book, it is paperback but sturdy.
Other coloring pages include Kitchen Kabaret; Figment and Dreamfinder; Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure; Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The Discovery chapter offers Jungle Cruise; Swiss Family Treehouse; Orange Bird; various EPCOT and other coloring pages. TRON and Disney’s Contemporary Resort are included as well as many other images. When you think the vintage images are done, there are more to see – and The World’s Most Magical Celebration is represented too.
Each chapter of “Art of Coloring: Walt Disney World” begins with a page of text, but this is primarily a coloring book with images from throughout Walt Disney World’s history (including the future). I’m really impressed by how many vintage images are in the book. I do believe this will be a coveted book in the future when it’s no longer available. The author is a longtime Disney fan and it shows with the images chosen.
