8/13 King Cupcake at Disney’s Pop Century Resort – Bacon, Peanut Butter, Banana
Hi everyone!
We stayed at Disney's Art of Animation Resort this past weekend, and were told about the King Cupcake sold at Disney's Pop Century Resort. The intriguing aspect of the cupcake is the bacon on top, which sounded "ick" to me, but I thought it'd be fun to try it. And we did. Twice. For research only (yeah, right!) The cupcake has been out a couple of months, and here is our review of it!
The King Cupcake is supposed to be an homage to Elvis Presley's favorite sandwich, which featured peanut butter, bananas and bacon. Unfortunately, the banana custard is almost non-existent in the cupcake – both times, we could have easily missed it. That was the one disappointment in the cupcake, as it is touted to be "filled" with banana custard. We split the cupcake twice, and neither of us had more than a tiny taste of banana.
The frosting tastes like delicious whipped peanut butter, the flavor reminds me of a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup. It combines very well with the moist chocolate cake. And the bacon? It's candied bacon, and I barely tasted it. While the cupcake tries to have a savory side, it's very light. Jeff said he tasted the bacon moreso than I did. That was fine for me, since I am still unsure about bacon and chocolate!
The cupcake was one of the best ones I've had on Walt Disney World property. It is unusual for me to order a Disney cupcake a second time, but we did here.
There is nothing that compares with a Sweet by Holly cupcake (my favorite cupcakes anywhere), but this is really pretty good. I'd get it again someday!
