Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to Close for Refurbishment at Magic Kingdom for at Least One Year

Hi everyone!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be temporarily closing at the Magic Kingdom for refurbishment “and a little bit of new magic” on January 6th, 2025 and is scheduled to reopen sometime in 2026. This is one of my favorite Magic Kingdom attractions, and has been since it opened in 1980. I am hoping they will add the explosion scene!

Will you have a chance for a final ride before Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closes for almost all of 2025 (and then into 2026)?

Don’t forget that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure recently opened (as a Splash Mountain retheme) in that area of Frontierland. So there will still be thrills to be had at the Magic Kingdom, also including Space Mountain and Tron Lightcycle / Run.
