Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Refurbishment Update at Magic Kingdom from January 24, 2025

Hi everyone!

We have Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment photos and video to share from the Magic Kingdom during our visit yesterday. The attraction is scheduled to reopen sometime in 2026 with a “little bit of new magic”. We have been posting updates of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad since it closed on January 6th, 2025.

Our photos and video are from the Liberty Belle riverboat. We did try to ride the Walt Disney World Railroad, but it ended up having a little downtime. We are planning to go back Wednesday and will photograph it then.

The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad crane wasn’t doing anything during our visit yesterday

Work was going on near the entrance to the attraction.

Work started on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad pretty much immediately after it closed on January 6th. We will at some point lose this view of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad forever when the Rivers of America closes (scheduled for this year).

The tracks seem to be mostly gone, and scaffolding was recently placed.

There are signs for the workers here.

Cones are also set up throughout the area.

There was another sign inside this doorway.

We didn’t see a lot of visible work going on while we were there except at the entrance and here.

We expect to have more Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment photos and video after Wednesday. We look forward to a little more time in the Magic Kingdom that day.
