Astro Orbiter Refurbishment Update From January 16th, 2025 (Photos, Video)

Hi everyone!

The Astro Orbiter at the Magic Kingdom closed on January 13th for an extensive refurbishment that is scheduled to last until sometime in summer 2025. We have photos and video to share from January 16th.

This is one of two family rides at the Magic Kingdom now closed for refurbishment, with the other being Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which is closed through sometime in 2026. We will also see the permanent closure of Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Belle riverboat in the near future.

First, here is our video. We took a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover for a good look. Pictures follow.

One of the large planets was taken down and behind a wall when we visited.

The sign here says “Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow”.

An Edna Mode saying “I never look back, darling. It distracts from the now” is on another sign.

The Astro Orbiter sign can be seen here.

The queue is empty and will be for the coming months.

At this time, one of the large planets was gone.

We also didn’t see any of the ride vehicles.

There is a crane behind a fence for the work, and a large planet with smaller ones was next to it.

It was really interesting to see this piece of the attraction below.

Here is another angle.

What do you think of the Astro Orbiter being closed through summer?

It has been a couple of days since we’ve been there, I am finally having time to post this. I know more has been already dismantled, and we’ll be back in the next week or so to see the progress.

Hopefully the Astro Orbiter will reopen earlier than later in the summer. While we don’t ride it often, it is a great family attraction (one I grew up with as a kid in the 1970s/80s as Star Jets).
