Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Refurbishment at Magic Kingdom From January 16, 2025 (Photos, Video)

Hi everyone!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom is undergoing a major refurbishment through sometime in 2026, and we have video and photos to share. Jeff first took the Walt Disney World Railroad past the construction, where the spiel talks about the “bells and whistles” coming. Disney has said a little bit of new magic will be here when the ride reopens.

Here is our video of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment, followed by photos.

All of our photos are from the Liberty Belle. The big crane can be seen, and it was hoisting what appeared to be a large trash bin (seen much further down).

The track removal began almost immediately after the closure on January 6th, 2025.

During my last update, this area still had some track even as it was being removed. Now it just looks like a trench.

Work has begun here as well.
