The Cake Bake Shop Opens on the Walt Disney World BoardWalk (w/Review of Two Items)

Hi everyone!

The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers soft opened yesterday on the Walt Disney World BoardWalk. The location is set up in two distinct sides – The Cake Bake Shop Bakery (which opened yesterday morning) and The Cake Bake Shop Restaurant (which opened later in the day).

I was there in the morning and purchased a few items at The Cake Bake Shop Bakery. I am sharing some photos, as well as a look at what I ordered.

The Cake Bake Shop had a pink ribbon queue, and employees in pink jackets. There is a lot of pink.

The employees were really great – helpful and friendly.

Look down once inside, and you’ll see The Cake Bake Shop name as well. This is the third location for the brand, and the first at Walt Disney World.

Once inside, the merchandise comes into view quickly.

There are hats, shirts, plush, and much more.

The sparkly chandeliers stand out as well.

More merchandise is to the right, including tumblers and more plush. But then you’ll notice the cakes, brownies and more that are for purchase.

A beautifully decorated cake was being set on a stand. The cakes really are gorgeous.

Chocolate chip cookies glisten with fleur de sel (French sea salt).

There are currently 9 different cakes here, plus other treats.

There are two sides to order items from. It wasn’t busy when I was there yesterday (it was a quiet opening).

French Macarons can be purchased individually or in a gift box. The presentation is elegant, including the boxes and to-go reusable bag.

I ordered the Blueberry Crumb Cake for $8.99.

The Cake Bake Shop says about this item, Featured on Oprah’s Favorite Things 2019! Gwendolyn’s signature crumb cake with fresh blueberries baked in a moist breakfast cake with freshly zested lemon. Topped with a brown sugar streusel and a dusting of powdered sugar.

Jeff and I split the crumb cake this morning for breakfast. This is a treat I would purchase again, it was moist and really tasty. Blueberries can be seen in the cake.

Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake is the most expensive of the cake slices at $24.99. Other slices are $22.99.

The Cake Bake Shop says about this cake, Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake Named after the Earl’s Court Convention Center in London where Gwendolyn received awards for ‘Best Chocolate Cake’ at the London Cake & Bake Show in 2012. Three layers of Valrhona French chocolate cake filled with Callebaut Belgian chocolate ganache and malted chocolate cream. Topped with Callebaut Belgian chocolate fudge and Fleur de Sel from Île de Ré in the South of France.

The cake is very moist, and the chocolate cream rather sweet and a perfect compliment. With the decadent richness and sweetness of the cake, we ended up with 5 total servings (and could have – and should have – made it 8). So for us, it was $5.00 per cake serving. The slice isn’t nearly as large as the chocolate cake from the Boathouse, but it is relatively large in comparison with a standard cake slice.

The ingredients are high quality, including the Valrhona chocolate that is so popular in France.

In addition, I ordered one of the macarons – but we haven’t tried it yet.

There is a lot of talk about the prices of the food and treats at The Cake Bake Shop.

This isn’t the first time that a Walt Disney World restaurant has been discussed online for prices. The Boathouse at Disney Springs is one restaurant that comes to mind, and now it is about to turn 10 years old (it has been my favorite restaurant since it opened).

There are a lot of ways guests can spend money at Walt Disney World. You could buy a drink for around $20, or a large piece of cake for $25, or Lightning Lanes at the parks – or none of those ways. Each person can choose to spend his or her money the way they choose.

I personally may choose The Cake Bake Shop Bakery for a special occasion, or if we want to split something like a Blueberry Crumb Cake if on the Walt Disney World BoardWalk. But the location is especially for those guests who are staying at a BoardWalk area resort and are looking to dine or purchase a special treat. I haven’t seen the menu for Afternoon Tea yet, but that will be a popular go-to as Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort has never restarted its tea service.

This is one more choice for guests on the Walt Disney World BoardWalk, and it is a quality one.

I expect we will try the restaurant at some point in the very near future as well.
