Minion Land Construction Update at Universal Studios Orlando from May 28th, 2023 (Photos, Video)
Hi everyone!
We have a Minion Land update from our visit yesterday to Universal Orlando! The land has really progressed since we last saw it a few weeks ago and it is starting to look a lot like the concept art that Universal Orlando has shared. Minion Land at Universal Orlando Resort is scheduled to open this summer. There is no date announced yet.
Here are photos and video from yesterday.
The “Minion Land” marquee sign features 22 Minions (including one purple Evil Minion) along Illumination Avenue.
Here is our video of the sign and construction update, followed by many more photos.
The sign with Minions is already very popular, with guests stopping to take photos with it.
This angle is great for seeing the various Minion expressions, including the Evil Minion.
Here are more photos of the Minion Land marquee sign, and then we’ll walk down Illumination Avenue.
The exterior of Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast has looked pretty complete for a while. It is an all-new attraction “where guests compete against each other in a fully interactive gaming experience”.
Evil Stuff is a new retail location which will have Villain-Con and Minions merchandise.
There are Villain-Con posters along the construction walls.
Bake My Day will feature Minion-themed sweet treats, including cupcakes, macarons, s’mores and more, and exclusive Minion-inspired merchandise like apparel, plush, drinkware, accessories, and keychains.
The pink cupcake can be seen throughout the land.
Here is a look at the Bake My Day concept art. I forgot to photograph the work going on nearby at the Illumination Theater facade (which can be seen in the photo to the right and will be used for meet and greets) but I will photograph it next time.
There is still more work going on behind the walls along Illumination Avenue.
“Bank of Evil”.
Illumination’s Minion Cafe will be the marquee dining location in Minion Land. The outline of “Cafe” can be seen here.
Here is concept art for Illumination’s Minion Cafe. There will be three themed areas designed after Minions Kevin, Stuart, Bob and Otto. You can read more about the offerings in the press release.
Pop-A-Nana will offer “sweet and savory popcorn inspired by the Minions’ love for bananas”, and there will be popcorn buckets as well.
I love all the whimsical signage throughout the land.
I am not sure what this building will be, but there is also a Freeze Ray Pops location that will open and this may be it. Freeze Ray Pops will feature a variety of colorful popsicles inspired by Gru, the Minions and Vector.
The Despicable Me Minion Mayhem attraction (to the right) opened in 2012. We were at the media event for it, it’s hard to believe it opened over 10 years ago now.
Minion Land at Universal Orlando Resort should be extremely popular! We will be back in the next few weeks for another update and I do look forward to the new land opening. The Minions are some of my favorite characters.
