Vintage Video: ‘Voyage of the Little Mermaid’ Show at Disney-MGM Studios (1992 Original Opening Version)

This week, Jeff went into his vintage archives for a “Little Mermaid” throwback.

“Voyage of the Little Mermaid” debuted in 1992 at Disney-MGM Studios (which later became Disney’s Hollywood Studios). The show ended in 2020 (I don’t know if it will return). “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” featured live actors, puppets and effects. This video is from opening year – 1992 – and includes a pre-show that wasn’t around long. And Ursula looks totally different than she did later on. There are some other changes as well, like Ariel sits in a shell here and in later years she sat on a rock.

Here is the video! The runtime of “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” itself is about 15 minutes. And if you watch all the way to the end, you’ll see the Disney-MGM Studios tip board, which includes The Monster Sound Show, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
