Celebrate Disney100 at the Disneyland Resort Starting January 27th, 2023

Hi everyone!

The Disney100 Celebration at the Disneyland Resort kicks off on January 27th, 2023 – about one month away now! Disney100 celebrates 100 years of the Walt Disney Company, with Disneyland being the heart of the celebration. There are two new nighttime spectaculars, the opening of an attraction, and more!

Here are 7 things I am looking forward to when we celebrate Disney100 at the Disneyland Resort next month!

1 – Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and their friends will wear new costumes – As is usually the case for special events and celebrations, the VIP characters (Mickey, Minnie and friends) will be in costumes created for the occasion. Platinum and purple seem to be the predominant colors for the celebration.

2 – Sleeping Beauty Castle will be decorated with banners and bunting – Disneyland’s castle will have platinum banners and bunting. Disneyland says about the decor, that it will be “accented by a magnificent cabochon featuring the three Good Fairies who illuminate it with their shimmering pixie dust. Two majestic water fountains will grace either side of the moat, while a beautiful wishing star will sparkle from the tower above.”

3 – “Wondrous Journeys” will entertain guests in Disneyland park (with fireworks on select nights) – One of two nighttime spectaculars for Disney100, the 13-minute “Wondrous Journeys” will feature a nod to every Walt Disney Studios Animation film to date. Disney says of “Wondrous Journeys”, “Gaze in wonder as Sleeping Beauty Castle and Main Street, U.S.A. become a marvelous canvas for 100 years of Walt Disney Animation Studios storytelling.” It won’t only be Sleeping Beauty Castle and Main Street U.S.A., but the façade of “it’s a small world” and the Rivers of America. A new song will debut with it, “It’s Wondrous”.

4- “World of Color – One” will debut at Disney California Adventure – Disney says that “World of Color – One” will celebrate “the rich storytelling legacy begun by Walt Disney a century ago, bringing to spectacular life moments from favorite films including The Lion King, Soul, Moana and many more.”  The show will feature a new song, “Start a Wave”.

5 – Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open – While Mickey’s Toontown is scheduled to open on March 8th, 2023, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open on January 27th. The attraction will be very similar to the ride at  Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with some minor differences – to start with, the exterior is El CapiTOON Studios. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first ride-through attraction that stars Mickey and Minnie at the Disneyland Resort.

6 – There will be special food & beverage offerings – Pictured is the Mickey Mouse popcorn bucket that is coming for the Disney100 celebration, and we should hear very soon on more food & beverage items! Disneyland always excels at specialty food items for holidays and events.

7 – Disney100 merchandise will be available – Merchandise actually has already started appearing at the parks and on shopDisney, including this Mickey Mouse and Friends Disney100 Spirit Jersey.

Also coming soon, on February 24th, 2023, is the return of the “Magic Happens” parade! I was able to view this short-lived parade back in March 2020 and look forward to seeing it again.

There is much more to do during the opening weekend of the Disney100 Celebration at Disneyland, with the kickoff being during the annual Lunar New Year Celebration at Disney California Adventure, and it will also be the last weekend of Haunted Mansion Holiday. We look forward to all of it.

Disney100 is a cross-company global celebration that is scheduled to last about a year. The official kickoff is at Disneyland, and I also am looking forward to seeing what happens here in Florida as well as Disneyland Paris.
