BoardWalk Ice Cream Shop Opens in Former Ample Hills Location (Photos, Review)
Hi everyone!
BoardWalk Ice Cream opened in the former Ample Hills location yesterday on the Walt Disney World BoardWalk. With Disney’s BoardWalk Inn reopening on July 2nd, it is nice to have a new dedicated ice cream shop for the resort. We were at Epcot and walked over yesterday afternoon. Here is a look at the location and the ice cream we ordered.
BoardWalk Ice Cream is located between the BoardWalk Bakery and ESPN Club (the latter has not reopened yet).
BoardWalk Ice Cream opened at about 3:00 p.m.
Disney says about this location, Bring your sweet tooth to this “cool” ice cream parlor located at Disney’s BoardWalk, featuring ice cream and sundaes to go. Enjoy menu items such as the Shore-Side Sundae with SNICKERS®, Bay-Side Brownie a la Mode and the Strawberry Splash Shortcake—all inspired by Beaches & Cream Soda Shop.
There was not much of a wait when we stopped by. There was full social distancing of the queue inside.
The inside of the shop no longer has the Disney artwork that was part of Ample Hills.
There is a nice view out the window while waiting inside.
Fun decor lines the shelves.
There is ice cream artwork on the walls.
A case of sodas and water is in the queue.
If you missed the menu outside, there is a menu inside as well. There are a variety of items but there was no apparent way to just add one scoop of extra ice cream to what we were ordering (we asked). The location is new so hopefully that will be an option.
The ice cream is from Edy’s and the flavors include vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and mint chocolate chip.
Here is a look at the ice creams.
Cast Members were preparing various ice cream creations.
We had just dined at Via Napoli and went with a lighter option, the Strawberry Splash Shortcake. It includes vanilla shortcake, strawberry compote, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream. Our sundae was served with whipped cream in the shape of Mickey.
We split the ice cream and enjoyed it. The shortcake didn’t look like anything special but it went really nicely with the ice cream and whipped cream.
This is going to be a great option for guests staying at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. That said, it isn’t special ice cream like you can get at L’Artisan des Glaces (with house-made ice cream) about a 10 minute walk away in Epcot. Gelateria Toscana also just opened at Epcot, in the Italy pavilion. It is nice to have a variety of choices.
You can find the menu and hours for BoardWalk Ice Cream on the Walt Disney World website.
