Close-Up Look at Lights Being Installed on Spaceship Earth as it Becomes Beacon of Magic
Hi everyone!
We visited Epcot yesterday and have some photos of the lights so far installed on Spaceship Earth for the special lighting that will debut October 1st, 2021 during the 50th anniversary celebration of Walt Disney World (The World’s Most Magical Celebration). Each park icon will become a Beacon of Magic and in this case, the lighting will be permanent.
This is the first time we’ve seen the lights since the installation began a week or so ago.
Last month, Imagineer Zach Riddley said of the installation, Our team at Imagineering has been hard at work innovating the design and technology for this poetic and inspirational lighting concept. And we’ve had to get quite ingenious in how we go about installing these new fixtures and all the high-tech systems so that they seamlessly integrate with the iconic profile of Spaceship Earth. There is a lot more work ahead as we continue installation and ready for testing, but I couldn’t wait to share with you that we’ve begun.
Here is a closer look at one of the lights.
Disney says of this transformation, that the new lights will shine across the reflective panels of Spaceship Earth, connecting to one another in a symbol of optimism resembling stars in a nighttime sky. The iconic structure’s permanent new lighting will continue beyond “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” as a defining feature of the park.
Here is concept art from Disney showing what Spaceship Earth may look like.
Here are more photos from yesterday.
And a couple of photos without the lights. It was a beautiful day for photos.
We will be back at Epcot next week and will share more after that visit.
