Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Construction Update and Breakfast at Captain Cook’s from October 1, 2020
Hi everyone –
We went to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort yesterday, where we checked out the construction and picked up some breakfast. It was a beautiful day out and also the 49th anniversary of the resort and Walt Disney World.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is currently closed except for the DVC Villas and Bungalows. The Great Ceremonial House is also open, although ‘Ohana and Trader Sam’s are among the still-closed locations. And the resort will continue to be closed through next summer.
A large crane can be seen here in front of the resort.
There is signage around the resort to guide guests where they need to go. The front of the Great Ceremonial House is closed for refurbishment but the side and back entrances are open.
Here is concept art for the updated front entrance (copyright Disney).
Looking back at Monorail Yellow and the area walled off for construction.
Another sign points to buses and the Transportation and Ticket Center (with two spelling errors).
The Great Ceremonial House will continue to be open even with work in progress.
The Great Ceremonial House was quiet while we were there.
There was a Cast Member behind the reception desk, though Pago Pago is where check-in now is.
Online check-in is available and there are plenty of signs to read.
This area is being refurbished for your future enjoyment.
Emergency exit sign.
This area was quiet too, since nobody is coming in through the front door now.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be undergoing several refurbishments – including rooms, front entrance and monorail.
Here is a look down on the lobby yesterday.
And Cinderella Castle from upstairs.
Unlike the sign downstairs, this one has punctuation at the end of the second sentence. And there is an elevator sign as well.
There is work going on at the elevator.
There are several A-Frames here for activities, bus service and COVID information.
The monorail platform is through the doors and the refurbishment is now scheduled to begin in November. Disney says, “The monorail service to this resort will be temporarily suspended beginning November 2, 2020.”
We went to Captain Cook’s for Tonga Toast.
Like other resorts we’ve eaten at since reopening, we ordered on the app and then picked up our bag inside.
We sat out on the Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace patio.
Tonga Toast and potatoes were in cardboard containers.
The potatoes are different than they used to be. Not bad, but they were more like potatoes before and these are closer to hash browns.
We ordered bacon with the Tonga Toast.
Kona Cafe does offer Tonga Toast as well but we aren’t dining inside right now. But it’s an option.
This was our view on the Tiki Terrace.
A squirrel was also dining nearby.
Here are a few more photos at the resort.
In the distance, the TRON coaster is being built next to Space Mountain.
Boats are not running here yet.
Looking back, the crane can be seen on the other side of the Great Ceremonial House.
I first stayed at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in 1977 and it is still one of my favorite resorts.
The bungalows are a newer section of the resort (2015) and Cinderella Castle is in view beyond them.
We will share more from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in the coming months!
