Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Offers a Family Friendly E-Ticket with Mild Thrills (My Thoughts with POV Video)

Hi everyone!

We are at the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance media event in Disney’s Hollywood Studios today. The ride officially opens tomorrow, December 5th, 2019. I’ve been asked a number of questions about the attraction, which I personally consider a high quality and very well done E-Ticket but also a family friendly ride. We have a ride POV below. I am not going to give spoilers in words or pictures right now besides the video (it is all spoilers) but I wanted to give my thoughts to help you decide whether or not to ride.

Our POV ride video

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has a height requirement of 40 inches. Online, the Disney website gives the precautions “Thrill ride, small drops, dark, loud”. What surprised me when riding is that the attraction didn’t effect me in any way I am sensitive to. I can be sensitive to noise, to drops (I still often enjoy them anyway) and darkness occasionally as well. I don’t ride quite as many real thrill rides as I once did as I get older.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance could be called exhilarating, but my first thought when finishing the ride was that I didn’t find it an intense attraction. The small drop is small. It is like Tower of Terror in that it is a drop, but it is a very mild one. I still sometimes get nervous on rides like Tower of Terror even though I love it, but did not feel any apprehension for the drop on my second time on Rise of the Resistance. The attraction is not that dark, I could always see the floor and I was surprised how light it was at times. It can be a little loud and there are guns firing – but not like Star Tours, I am a little sensitive to the latter. I never felt like I was in peril during the ride, if that makes sense – for example, I always do during Indiana Jones Adventure in Disneyland (I cover my ears during the arrow scene).

The ride is very smooth, except at the end where there is a motion simulator but that is brief.

The one area that I could see issues is with motion sickness. Most guests should not have issues with this, it isn’t like Mad Tea Party nor Indiana Jones. But it does have a lot of movement over several minutes – but again, mostly smooth.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be an attraction that most families can ride and enjoy together. There are some precautions including for pregnant women, guests with high blood pressure and such (the same ones as for almost any E-Ticket attraction).

I expect long lines for the ride, but I was very impressed with not only the ride itself but the pre-show rooms. They are very repeatable.

If you ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, let me know what you think! And honestly, you don’t have to be a massive Star Wars fan to enjoy the ride.
