Today was the 50th anniversary of the original Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World celebrated too, with mostly a merchandise event but there was also some added magic in the form of Disney characters in special costumes. Pluto, Goofy, Chip and Dale roamed around Liberty Square for several hours this morning.
Today’s event began at 7:45am, we arrived at about 9am. We planned to ride the Haunted Mansion and see if there were Halloween decorations up in the park (not yet). But seeing the characters roaming around was really fun.
Here is our multi-character video and then photos!
Pluto was in front of Memento Mori when I first saw him. The costumes they are wearing originated from Hong Kong, we’ve seen Mickey in his costume previously for Halloween at the resorts.
Before moving on to Chip and Dale, here is the cupcake that was for sale today. I got in line but then noticed it was $8.25 – I’ve spent $6.99 occasionally for cupcakes but never more than that so opted out.
Chip went to the Haunted Mansion cemetery and enjoyed the interactive elements.
He checked out the tombstones.
He moved on to the organ.
And finished here.
He also stopped to talk (the Cast Member he was with is fantastic!)
Here is our video of Chip & Dale!
He was in no hurry to leave the cemetery area and posed with the busts.
Chip and Dale were not usually roaming together. Dale was in front of Memento Mori here.
He showed off what instruments he likes to play.
And he had gestured to the Haunted Mansion sign, showing it was Haunted.
Goofy was in a cape with bat wings.
Here is our Goofy video.
Goofy spread his wings and ran around the Haunted Mansion queue.
And was photographed as he folded up like a bat.
And later he posed as a Hitchhiking Ghost.
This was a fun surprise this morning! And happy anniversary to one of my longtime favorite attractions.
