Maleficent Dragon Float Returns to Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom (Photos, Video)
Hi everyone!
The Maleficent dragon float returned to Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade today after about eight months away! The popular float had been damaged by fire last year and it was really nice to see her back in the parade again. Disney says about Maleficent, Maleficent brings all of her villainy back to the Disney’s Festival of Fantasy parade – just one part of the daily spectacular where enchanting stories and characters from Fantasyland come to life for Magic Kingdom guests.
We have photos and video from today!
It’s hard to believe, but Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade is going to turn 5 years old in March! I still remember when the parade stepped off for the first time in 2014, it was a fantastic addition to the Magic Kingdom and Maleficent has been the signature float for it.
Here is our full parade video from today.
Maleficent has a “refreshed look” according to Shawn Slater fofr the Disney Parks Blog. The article continues that Maleficent is enhanced with new features designed to keep her in check while on show.
Not everyone in my social media comments expected Maleficent to ever return, but Disneyland Paris has a Maleficent dragon that breathes fire – so I expected to see her back, though not necessarily today! It was a surprise to see Disney post about it this morning.
According to Disney, the Steampunk-inspired Maleficent Dragon stretches 53 feet from nose (snout) to tail and reaches 26 feet in the air.
Not only was Maleficent back today, but there are characters that support her and interact with her. These are Prince Phillip; the Fairy Godmothers Flora, Fauna and Merryweather; and the Ravens.
Maleficent starts down Main Street, U.S.A.
She continues to be one of the most impressive floats that Disney has ever offered in a parade.
Maleficent passes by guests on the Main Street train station platform.

The parade starts in Frontierland and ends in Town Square.
Maleficent gives one more burst of fire before heading behind the scenes.
Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade is a daily parade that usually starts at 3:00 p.m., but check the daily schedule when you visit.
