Sandtastic Weekends Kick Off at Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort (Photos, Video)
Hi everyone!
The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort is currently holding Sandtastic Weekends, showcasing sand sculpture on the beach. Sandtastic Weekends are August 26-28 and September 2-4, 2016. The resort brought in 100 tons of sand to create the display below, which is a very large sculpture that includes Disney characters and more. And there are other activities as well, including a Sand Sculpting Class and DJ Dance in the Sand party each day. We were there on the first day, and checked out the sand sculpture – it includes Mickey Mouse as Steamboat Willie, Mickey Mouse as a boat captain, Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse. Keep reading for photos and video!
Here is a look at our video, and then keep reading for photos!
Our first view was the word Sandtastic – but there was much more we could not see yet.
Pluto, Timothy Mouse, and dolphins & swans are on this portion of the sand sculpture for Sandtastic Weekends. The sculpture is large with different themes running down it.

According to the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin website, “The fun continues to Labor Day Monday, September 5, with special tributes to celebrate the Kickoff Classic college football game between Florida State and Ole Miss taking place in Orlando. Fans of each team will find a giant sand sculpture in honor of the game incorporating a tribute to both teams and the lights on the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort causeway will feature team colors. Coverage of the Kickoff Classic between the Florida State Seminoles and Ole Miss Rebels will be shown on an outdoor oversized projection screen.”
Minnie Mouse was being carved out.
Dolphin fish sculpted in the sand, shaped like on top of the resort (and on the logo).
The Donald Duck carving was just beginning (we show it nearly finished toward the end of the article).
One of the members of Team Sandtastic talks about sand sculpture with guests.
Just days ago, we took one of the Swan boats out here ($20 for a half hour). It was a lot of fun!

Steamboat Willie was almost finished when we arrived back after a quick visit to Epcot.
Donald Duck was also almost complete.
Here is a look at the sand sculpture last night. I’m not sure what the changes will be in it from one weekend to the next, we look forward to seeing it again!
Minnie Mouse also was almost finished.
I love this photo op (guests can take photos of themselves within this frame).
The Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort is home to several of the best restaurants on Walt Disney World property (including Shula’s) and it’s nice to see the resort offering even more to guests with Sandtastic Weekends.
