DVD Review: Sofia the First: The Curse of Princess Ivy

Hi everyone!

Disney has just released a new DVD with 4 favorite episodes of Sofia the First, Sofia the First: The Curse of Princess Ivy. The title is based on a full-length adventure from late 2014, with a total of nearly 2 hours of entertainment. Sofia the First is about a young girl who is learning how to adapt to being royal after her mom marries a king.

Princess Amber (Darcy Rose Byrnes) notices that Sofia (Ariel Winter) talks to animals – converses with them in a unique way. She asks Sofia about it, eventually getting her to admit that her Amulet of Avalor is magical. Not only can Princess Sofia talk to animals with the amulet, but she also can conjure up princesses when in trouble.

Amber makes known to Sofia and their father that she wants this “best” amulet or one that is equally as magical. Turned down by their father, she invites Princess Sofia to a sleepover in her room. Amber spends the night trying to talk herself into taking the amulet, and she finally succumbs to her temptation in the morning.

Princess Amber doesn’t seem to care about talking to animals, but she does want a princess of her own. She tries to summon Rapunzel, but ends up with someone else – Princess Ivy (Anna Camp). Amber is stunned at first, but quickly embraces this new princess. Butterflies arrive with Princess Ivy, turning everything black and white. Princess Ivy eventually gets her hands on the amulet, singing her story that includes her desire to rule the Kingdom of Enchancia.

Will the amulet be lost forever? Princess Sofia and Princess Amber set off on an adventure that eventually includes dragons and Rapunzel (Mandy Moore). Rapunzel sings a song, “Dare to Risk it All”, which kids should love.

Here is a clip from that segment:

Other episodes: “The Amulet Of Avalor,” “Princess Butterfly,” “The Emerald Key”

There are no real bonus features on this DVD, but there is a color changing butterfly necklace that is activated by sun exposure included with Sofia the First: The Curse of Princess Ivy.
