Review: “Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Battle for the Book”
Hi everyone!
We had been sent a review copy of “Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Battle for the Book“. This DVD also includes 4 other episodes, along with a checkerboard bandana game. Everyone will recognize the iconic characters of Wendy, John and Michael Darling, who join forces with Jake and the Never Land Pirates in this adventurous story. Here is our review of the disc!
The dastardly “bilge rat” Captain Hook (and his five o’clock shadow) dislikes how he is depicted in Wendy’s storybook, and flies with Mr. Smee and other pirates to London to steal the book from Wendy. There are a number of catchy songs in the DVD, including one where Captain Hook sings about destroying the book. They plan to eradicate the book about Peter Pan, so that Captain Hook will not be thought of as a “bumbling fool”. Captain Hook and Wendy engage in a tug of war over the book, but Hook is able to get away with it. The young Michael Darling is quite sassy in this show, always quick with a line.
Wendy sings a song to Peter Pan for help, but Peter is quite busy. So while Wendy’s song says that Peter is the only one who could help her, Peter seems to feel that Jake and the Never Land Pirates can assist instead. Jake and his friends travel to London to find Wendy, John and Michael Darling. We enjoyed seeing the sights of London including Big Ben and the Tower Bridge animated!
Unfortunately, Wendy, John and Michael start losing their recollection of Neverland and Peter Pan. The memories don’t disappear immediately, but the details about Never Land are lost bit by bit as long as the book is with Captain Hook. Without the book, the story of Peter Pan will be lost forever. Jake and the Never Land Pirates, along with Tinker Bell, Wendy, Michael and John set out to Never Land to retrieve their cherished book before it is burned in the Ring of Blue Fire.
Just as the memories of Wendy, Michael and John are drawing blanks on Peter Pan, Peter shows up to help save the day. And when Captain Hook learns that his villainous story will also disappear from everyone’s minds, he announces that the book should never be destroyed.
Kids who have been raised on Disney Junior should really enjoy this story that includes Jake and the classic Peter Pan characters. The animation isn’t on the level of a “Frozen”, but it is a DVD movie and is fine for what it is. There are 4 other stories that I watched, but none were as interesting to me as this first tale. In fact, I’m nearly 50 years old and am a very big fan of the original Peter Pan, and found Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Battle for the Book very entertaining, being able to revisit the enduring characters again.
Voices in Jake and the Neverland Pirates Battle for the Book: Sean Ryan Fox (Life Tracker, East of Kensington) as Jake, Madison Pettis (Cory in the House, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 and 3, The Game Plan) as Izzy, Jadon Sand (Frozen, Wreck it Ralph) as Cubby, David Arquette (Scream movies) as Skully, and Corey Burton (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Captain Hook
