Celebrating Halloween at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground – Golf Cart Parade, Campsite Decorations!

Hi everyone!

The Halloween season is winding down at Walt Disney World, and Christmas decorations are already starting to pop up! But before Halloween is over, one of my very favorite events of the year is happening at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – the Halloween Golf Cart Parade! Not only that, but we really enjoy seeing the Pumpkin Decorating Contest, as well as the Site Decorating Contest that is a tradition at the Fort every year.

If you haven’t ever been to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground during the holidays, I highly recommend a visit! We usually spend more time in October walking around Fort Wilderness than we did this year, but we did finally make it over for a look at Halloween decorations a few days back. There are camp guests who spend hours – and sometimes days –  putting out their displays, and that doesn’t include time spent at home getting prepared. The Halloween Golf Cart Parade is the same way, we’ve met winners of the parade who spent months on their designs! I’m always so blown away by the creativity of guests at Fort Wilderness. I fell in love with the UP house last year, and could have even picked it up to take home later that week, but ended up getting sick. I’m sure someone else is enjoying it!

There are activities all day for those staying at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground, but some “Main Events” over two days include the Halloween Golf Cart Parade. Generally, parking is restricted at these times, so we’ve made it another tradition to enjoy Trails End on holidays at the Fort. If you are staying there, ask for more information on how to get involved in any activities! Registration for Fort Wilderness guests takes place for most of the events below ahead of the time listed.

Here are some of the highlights!

October 30th, 2013

4:30 p.m. – Pet Costume Parade at Waggin’s Tails Dog Park

6:00 p.m. – Pumpkin Decorating Contest

7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. – Site Decorating Contest

October 31st, 2013

5:00 p.m. – Halloween Golf Cart Parade. This can be seen along the parade route at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort!

There are also wagon rides offered at Fort Wilderness on most nights at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. – although our ride was at 6:00 p.m. and the other that night at 8:00 p.m., so call ahead of for the schedule! The price is $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for children, and has been one of my favorite things to do at Walt Disney World for many years. During the Halloween and Christmas seasons, it’s a great way to see the decorations! Unfortunately, the Haunted Carriage and Haunted Wagon Rides are no longer offered. You can see that we were being followed by something scary on our wagon ride this past week (just for a moment).

Here are just a few of the decorations that you can see this year around Fort Wilderness. I love the Hitchhiking Ghosts!

Here is the Fort Wilderness Golf Cart Parade from 2012:

And last year’s incredible pirate ship that won for the Site Decorating Contest!
This is a great last hurrah for us during the Halloween season, as later this week we should be seeing full Christmas decorations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, followed closely by Disney’s Magic Kingdom park.

We posted a Mousesteps Weekly Show earlier this year about our trip to Fort Wilderness in May, for anyone who would like to see more of the campground itself.
