Mickey Mouse in Fustanella, Hercules Delight Guests at Opa! A Celebration of Greece Over Memorial Day Weekend at Disneyland
Hi everyone!
I returned from California early Sunday morning after a few days that began with a media press event for Mickey and the Magical Map, followed by the Monstrous Summer overnighter and ending with Opa! A Celebration of Greece. Smaller in scale than the Monstrous Summer overnighter, Opa! was just as much fun, with character appearances by Mickey Mouse in a Fustanella and Hercules.
Both Disney California Adventure and Disneyland were part of Opa!, with Hercules and Mickey Mouse meeting at the Small World Mall. When I arrived at Disneyland, young dancers were dancing to traditional Greek music. I didn’t participate in the games, but enjoyed the atmosphere that included streetmosphere characters. The event was much more than I expected, and Mickey Mouse in Fustanella was something I’d never seen before.
I would love to see this type of event at Epcot! You can see how beautiful the day was, and it wasn’t yet too crowded. I left the overnighter a couple of hours before it ended so I could get a little sleep before checking out of my hotel and heading to Disneyland. I didn’t have time to enjoy everything that Opa! offered, I had a plane to catch that evening – but it was worth staying for. Here are some images and videos from Opa! at Disneyland!
Over at Disney California Adventure, Mickey also made appearances – I’d loved to have seen Minnie also, as is on the shirt. The event was centered at the Paradise Grill, which is my favorite counter service restaurant at the Disneyland Resort. I didn’t buy the special Greek items on sale, but I did have the Beef Kefta Kabob from the restaurant twice during my brief trip. If I’d had more time, I’d have tried a wine tasting and enjoyed more of the entertainment. I did bring home two shirts! I definitely got lucky with the shirts, I was told they were going to sell out early – someone before me bought 14 of them. I was close to missing out on the Monsters University lunchbox during the overnighter too, there was a huge run on them!
We will be talking about Opa!, along with our coverage of the Monstrous Summer Overnighter from both coasts on our Mousesteps Weekly #55 show this weekend!
