6/28 Despicable Me Minion Mayhem at Universal Studios Orlando – Review, Photos and Video
Guests enter Gru's living room. There are details that I don't remember from the film, such as the lion holding the dog, which is holding the cat, which is holding the mouse (the Circle of Life in play!)
The pre-show films are among the best I've seen at any attraction. Normally, I see a pre-show once and then I don't really have a need to see it again. That is not the case here, I could watch them over and over again (especially the film in the living room). The photos below are a combination of the pre-show movie in the living room and the room itself.
The next room is the Minion Prep Room, before guests are brought into the ride room. There is a fun pre-show here (which includes a "fart gun", two words I never thought I'd write together on this site). 🙂
I think the note says "Minion Dave is Dumb", but don't quote me on that! And Minions love bananas, which is noted above that. There are even banana plants in the queue, but we didn't find them yet.
To the right hand side, guests can follow along with the words of the pre-show:
Neither photos nor video are allowed on the ride. Here are a few images of the film from Universal. The ride itself uses the new, sophisticated Infitec 3-D projection system.
This building had formerly housed the Hanna Barbera attraction, followed by Jimmy Neutron (both which I enjoyed). I didn't have the affection for Jimmy Neutron as I do for Despicable Me, so it wasn't hard to see it replaced.
I tend to not be a big fan of dance parties, but where else can you dance with a Minion? This isn't a long dance party, I think just the length of time that it takes to play "Boogie Fever", but it was fun to watch the Minions dance with guests.
We didn't have a chance to spend time in the gift shop, but hopefully next time! The last visit we made to Universal Studios, Jeff picked up a Minion plush for me – I'm sure we'll end up with a few other things as well. I am a fan!
Here are a couple of more photos of the Minions, copyright Universal:
As I was taking photos of Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, two teenage girls were trying to get their mother to ride it. She was concerned that it was a roller coaster (it isn't) or that it would make her sick. I let her know it was a simulator ride (which apparently doesn't bother her) and well worth the 50 minute wait. The girls seemed very happy as their mom decided to go! And even if she decided to opt out before the ride itself, I know the pre-show will entertain her.
What I told the mom, I would tell anyone. Go see it. This is a great year to visit Universal Studios! Minions, a new parade, a fantastic nighttime show, Spiderman in 3-D and Butterbeer. What's not to love?
