1/20 President Obama Visits the Magic Kingdom, A Day in the Park (and DHS Fireworks Pics)
A few reporters still lingered, but everything was getting back to usual on Main Street pretty quickly. Patriotic banners usually reserved for the 4th of July adorned buildings. One note – guests were able to park hop even with a single day ticket for this one day only!
Disney's Contemporary Resort was the media base:
We went to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge to go to Mara before photographing the fireworks at Disney's Hollywood Studios. What do you think we saw parked in the lot? An Oscar Meyer Wienermobile! It's been a long time since I've seen one in person.
Last stop: Disney's Hollywood Studios for the Rock the Night fireworks, a late addition to the schedule due to President Obama coming to town (to draw guests away from the Magic Kingdom). I love watching fireworks here, with live music played by Mulch, Sweat and Shears along with great pyro! I started out on Hollywood Boulevard with Jeff, he recorded there but I wanted to be in a different location for photos. Hollywood Boulevard:
The location I chose has a better view of the Chinese Theater, and is much quieter. I had a half hour before the fireworks started, so I experimented with sepia, black and white, and vivid photos (as well as regular ones) with my tripod. Vivid was my favorite, though I'm a big fan of black and white too.
We'd seen the New Year's Eve fireworks at Disney's Hollywood Studios just a couple of weeks earlier, and they were very similar. I would love to see Disney put on this fireworks show on a regular basis (even if it was once a week or month). Check out our fireworks video!
It was a really great day to be out and about, and it was actually enhanced by the extras that Disney offered to make up for the inconvenience. Take a look at our article about when President George Bush visited in 1991, as well as Hillary Clinton in 1996!
