1/9 Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom – Play Testing Photos and Video From 2 Days
This is one of my favorite spell cards from the first day, Woody’s lasso:
The Genie and Merlin:
We finished this adventure, but could go to another:
We were with two other friends who were playing their cards, and we went to Adventureland. You can see how two cards can be held up, and the location of the Portal we were at:
We ended up going back to the Tortuga Tavern several times on Sunday (at least twice within one game). I mentioned that the Portals were close together in Fantasyland, but not as much in other lands. I found the Pocohantas story a little weak, but Meeko was cute!
A friend of ours found this Professor Merlin’s Little Miracle Eliixer in one window:
Today when we played on the medium setting, it took longer to defeat our first villain, Dr. Facilier, than on the easy setting. We did have issues with one screen in Liberty Square that ended up being broken after we used it during this mission. I only played one game today, Jeff played several and let me know how that was handled. Once the Liberty Square Portal we used went down, the whole Frontierland/Liberty Square area was down for an hour or so. Eventually the Frontierland/Liberty Square realm was open again, minus that Portal.
Dr. Facilier kept rolling dice, and my spells weren’t working at first. We were told that when the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom officially starts, defeating the characters will be harder if you are playing the same key card (the characters will start being immune to the cards, and you need to choose the spell cards more carefully). It sounds like there will be a lot more interactivity than is available now.
The Main Street realm has not been started yet. This should start very soon, likely not long after the Christmas decorations are gone. Jeff took these photos of the Portal at the Main Street Train Station today:
And here is the interior of the Main Street Fire Station, where many of the props from the previous incarnation are still displayed – including one location where the patches will be:
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom ended just a little early today due to technical difficulties.
There are going to be challenges. When the game gets busy, a line can start forming at the Portals. When one realm is not working properly, it moves more guests elsewhere. The stroller parking behind Cinderella Castle was an obstacle in itself on Sunday, as strollers were moved away from windows. Epcot is a much larger park than the Magic Kingdom, and lends itself more easily to a game like this (or Kim Possible). And during parades, it will be hard to play in most areas.
I am much more impressed with the game today than I was on Sunday – bumping up to a new level made a big difference. I am looking forward to seeing what WDI is coming up with as the game is fully realized and becomes more interactive! If you’ve not seen our videos, check them out!
