Golden Horseshoe Revue Dinner Show and Celebration with Wally Boag (Photos from March 29th, 2008)
On 3/29, Ape Pen Publishing put on what was a fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime show at the Sheraton Anaheim. I was very fortunate to be able to assist in a small way with it as well (if you attended, I may have checked you in at the registration table). I wanted to get these photos up tonight – so I skimped on words, but not photos!
The event was in large part a tribute to Wally Boag (and Betty Taylor, who was unable to attend). What an amazing treat to get to see Wally in person! The show and presentations included Disney legends and Golden Horseshoe performers. Thank you to Carlene Thie at Ape Pen Publishing for working so hard to put on this incredible event and letting me be part of it.
Before getting dressed up (and put to work), I took some photos prior to the event.
A few items from the silent auction:
The centerpieces were done by Shane and Melode from the Ape Pen boards (that was an incredible amount of work – there were about 30 tables!)
Ed from the Ape Pen forum:
Ed was kind to let me test my camera flash on him!:
The Can Can dancers rehearsing:
Eric (also from the forum) in costume:
Lannie sprinkling horseshoes on the table:
Melode (who created the lovely centerpieces with her husband):
Lonnie and Michael from the forums.
Bob Gurr:
With Todd from Micechat. I loved seeing everyone dressed up!:
Wally Boag and his daugher Heather:
Carlene Thie and her daughter Rachel with Wally:
What a thrill for me to be able to meet Wally as well (he was so kind!) I told him how very talented he was, and he said “I don’t know what I did”. 🙂
The Dapper Dans starting the show:
Some video and photos were shown as we ate:
Lannie and her friend Peter:
Ed and myself:
Eric and his wife:
Carlene Thie and John Eaden (from Billy Hill and the Hillbillies):
Marty Sklar:
Disney artist and Legend Charles Boyer:
The Can Can Girls and Dapper Dans:
John Eaden:
Gene Sands, who is working on the upcoming Wally Boag book (there was a pre-order for autographed copies at the event):
Wally’s main substitute, Jim Adams:
The whole show was non-stop and amazing, but Kirk Wall was probably my very favorite of all the performances! (he has been with Billy Hill and the Hillbillies since 1990, and heading the group since 1994).
Ron Schneider – also a Wally Boag substitute, and was the walk-around Dreamfinder at Epcot.
Jim Adams came back up and did some wonderful ventroquilism:
Wally’s son, Laurence (who inherited a great sense of comic timing from his dad):
Wallys daughter Heather, who read something she’d written for the upcoming book on her father:
The wonderful Dana Daniels performing:
Wally got up and spoke for a couple of minutes:
The Can Can girls came out again:
