Disney’s Fort Wilderness Segway Tour 6/29

The Segway XT is an all terrain model.  I prefer it to the Segway I've tried before  (there is no little knob to move on the handle, you just steer the whole column).  I am totally spoiled now with these Segways, I don't know if I'll enjoy any other Segway tour as much as this one.    The tires are wider, it has a better base, more torque, and the wheels are independent of each other.

Just an aside – I got a kick out of this verrrry old hair dryer in the womens room there (the one bathroom definitely not remodeled at Fort Wilderness!):

If you look at my resort walks, under Fort Wilderness, you'll see most of what is covered on the ride.  The Segway tour goes to the Wilderness Lodge, around the beach, on the nature trail (that the wagon ride often goes on).  Robert was the one actually leading the rides, while Ron focused more on the safety and teaching aspect.   Some of you may recognize them, both Ron and Robert (and one other guide who joined us briefly) also pilot the Illuminations and Wishes cruises.

Remember – you will be riding on nature trails.  Lots of trees, plants, some butterflies – if you are very lucky, maybe a deer or rabbit (deer tend to be out earlier though).   You'll have a couple of brief views of the Magic Kingdom and Contemporary.  One of the best things about the tour?  The shade!  Most of the trails are well-covered by trees.

The helmets aren't the most attractive, but I'm a klutz and was happy to have one (though I actually did quite well with the tour!)   We had been stopped here at the horse barn.
