New Aquatic Play Area Opens at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Doubloon Lagoon: Photos & Video
Hi everyone!
Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter today opened a new Aquatic Play Area for kids at Doubloon Lagoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony! Walt Disney World Ambassador Caitlin Busscher was on hand to help with the ceremony, which then ended with kids enjoying the new addition to the resort. Technically this is the third moderate resort to offer an upgraded kids water play area, with Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground currently in the moderate category and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort offering a pirate themed water playground. And last year, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort both opened similar water play areas for kids.
Here are our photos and video from today! And I’ll have to post a new Port Orleans French Quarter Photo Walk soon.

It was a gorgeous day at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter! Yesterday we were told by Andre at Port Orleans.org that the new water play area would be open. We had seen progress last month during Disney’s Port Orleans Mardi Gras Pargo Parade.
Mardi Gras beads sat in a Mickey shape on top of a resort entrance trash can.
There was a sign letting guests know that the Aquatic Play Area was opening today. I really like that Port Orleans Resort celebrates almost everything, and includes guests too.
These alligators are always a fun sight.
This was my view from behind the red ribbon before it was cut in the short ceremony. Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter already has a fantastic pool with a dragon slide, and this is terrific upgrade.
Kids 48 inches and shorter can use the new water play area.
Rules for the Aquatic Play Area are posted.
Caitlin Busscher was flanked by managers from Port Orleans Resort as they got ready to cut the ribbon.
A young guest was chosen to be part of the ceremony.
This is our video of the ribbon cutting ceremony and a tour of the Aquatic Play Area. More photos are below!
The Aquatic Play Area is themed to the resort and includes slides, a large bucket, water cannons and more.
The slide and water bucket should be a lot of fun for kids!
Theming here includes “beads” along the stairs.
Prior to this, there was only a small kiddie pool. Here, kids can enjoy a more interactive experience.
The colors blend in very nicely with the rest of Doubloon Lagoon.
Three water cannons point toward this slide.

Mardi Gras jesters are part of the decor.
Here is a shot looking up!
Doubloon Lagoon was already a very popular pool area for families, but this new addition will make it even more so. Thanks to Andre at PortOrleans.org for the heads up!
